General John C. Pemberton Camp #1354 is the oldest chapter of the Sons of Confederate Veterans in Vicksburg, Mississippi. Our camp commemorates Lt. General John Clifford Pemberton (1814-1881), Commander of the Department of Mississippi and Eastern Louisiana and the Fortress of Vicksburg from October 1862 until the surrender on July 4, 1863.

Membership in the Sons of Confederate Veterans is open to all male descendants of any veteran who served honorably in the Confederate armed forces. Membership can be obtained through either direct or collateral family lines and kinship to a veteran must be documented genealogically. The minimum age for membership is 12.

The SCV has ongoing programs at the local, state, and national levels which offer members a wide range of activities and opportunities for service. We are involved in preservation work, marking Confederate soldier's graves, and historical re-enactments. We have regular meetings to discuss the military and political history of the War Between The States (WBTS) and the colorful and heroic men who fought it.

The camp meeting will now begin at 7:00 PM
at the Southern Cultural Heritage Complex.
Please note the new permanent meeting time.

The monthly Camp Meeting is always the first Thursday of the month at the Southern Cultural Heritage Complex at 1302 Adams Street in Vicksburg. The meeting begins at 7:00 PM and should conclude around 8:30. If you have any questions about the meeting time or location, call Commander Sam Price (638-2676) or any other camp officer. Visitors are always welcome.

The highlight of the evening is a presentation by a well-informed and interesting speaker. The Camp also conducts its regular business at the monthly meeting. Opportunities for service are always available. In addition to the educational aspects and service opportunities, plenty of hearty fellowship makes the camp meeting a monthly event perfect for the whole family.

Charge to the Sons of Confederate Veterans (Our Charter)

To you, Sons of Confederate Veterans, we submit the vindication of the Cause for which we fought; to your strength will be given the defense of the Confederate soldier's good name, the guardianship of his history, the emulation of his virtues, the perpetuation of those principles he loved and which made him glorious and which you also cherish. Remember, it is your duty to see that the true history of the South is presented to future generations.
