Greetings, and thank you for visiting this page.
The SCV (Sons of Confederate Veterans) is a non-political, non-sectarian organization comprised of male descendants of men that served honorably in the armed forces of The Confederate States of America. For more information about the Confederate States of America, and the War Between the States, click here. The primary purpose of the SCV is to honor the men that served in the Confederate military, and preserve our memory of them. This is done in many ways, including appropriate memorial services, ceremonies, educational programs, re-enactments, and other activities. We find that a strong belief in self determination, independence, respect for home and family, Christian virtues, among other desirable qualities, were possessed by the typical Confederate Soldier. The SCV in general, and the John C. Pemberton Camp in specific, believes that the Confederate Soldier is appropriately honored by drawing attention to and promoting these virtues. For more information, visit the National SCV home page, and the section providing more detail about the SCV.A careful examination of the facts will reveal many causes for the War Between the States. The SCV holds that, when the facts are consulted, the primary motivations of the Confederacy are found to be the right to self-determination, state's rights, and strict adherance to the Constitution as interpreted by the men who authored it. As the war progressed, protection of home and family from harm became a primary motivation for the individual Confederate Soldier. Likewise, we hold that when the facts are consulted, it becomes clear that preservation of the institution of slavery was not the primary motivation for the Confederate government, military, or individual soldier.
Thanks again for visiting our page, and learning more about the SCV. We invite you to come out and enjoy one of our excellent educational programs; great for the entire family.
