Suppose God asked you, "Why should I let you into my heaven?" what would you say?
The Bible tells us how we may know that we have eternal life. - 1 John 5:13
1. Heaven is a free gift, not earned or deserved The gift of God is eternal life" Romans 6:23
2. "All have sinned and come short..." Romans 3:23
No one can save himself, else he must be perfect Matthew 5:8; James 2:10
3. God loves us and is merciful. 1 John 4:8, Jeremiah 31:3
But He is just - and therefore must punish sin.
He says, "...I will by no means clear the guilty." Exodus 34:7
He does not want to punish us, yet must punish our sin.
God solved this problem for us in the person of Jesus Christ.
4. Jesus Christ - the infinite god-man. John 1:1,14, Isaiah 53:6
Jesus Christ came to earth. He lived a sinless life, then died on the cross to pay the penalty for our sins, and rose from the grave to purchase a place for us in heaven, which He offers us as a free gift. This gift is received by . . .
5. Faith
a. Not simply INTELLECTUAL ASSENT - believing certain historical facts.
The devil believes in God: mental assent is not saving faith.
b. Nor mere TEMPORAL FAITH - trusting God to help us with our temporal needs. We should trust Christ for these. But this not saving faith.
Saving faith is TRUSTING IN JESUS CHRIST FOR SALVATION - resting on Him alone and what He has done, rather than on what you or I have done to get us into heaven.
Believe [trust] on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved. Acts 16:31
We don't deserve the gift of eternal life. But we can have it. If we will receive it by faith.
This is the greatest story ever told about the greatest offer ever made by the greatest Person who ever lived!
To receive the gift of eternal life, you must . . .
TRANSFER YOUR TRUST from what you have been doing to what Christ has done for you on the cross.
RECEIVE THE RESURRECTED, LIVING CHRIST into your life as SAVIOR.
He says that if anyone opens the door [of their life], He will come in. Revelation. 3:20
RECEIVE JESUS CHRIST INTO YOUR LIFE AS LORD.
He wants to take control of your life - His rightful place: He made you, He bought you
REPENT OF YOUR SINS. Be willing to turn from anything not pleasing to Him and to follow Him as He reveals His will to you in His Word. If this is what you really want, you can go to God in prayer right where you are, and receive his gift right now.
Lord Jesus Christ, I know I am a sinner. I do not deserve eternal life. But I believe You died and rose from the grave to purchase a place in heaven for me. Lord, I repent of my sin. Come into my life, take control, forgive my sins, and save me. I now place my trust in you alone for my salvation. I accept the free gift of eternal life.
Jesus said, He who believes in Me has (present tense) everlasting life. John 6:47
Upon a life I did not live, upon a death I did not die - Jesus' life, Jesus' death - I stake my whole eternity!
